Guayaquil and its surroundings

Guayaquil, the Pearl of the Pacific, is a modern and active city, and the main producer of foreign exchange as an operational centre of the country. Our city has a lot of industries that are growing every day in all branches of production. Being the country’s largest city, it has at the time a population of approximately 3,000,000 inhabitants.

It is bordered by the Guayas river and the Estero Salado an arm of the sea. This large city is located mostly on the above estuary, previously mentioned, and it is attractive on the bank of the Guayas River for being part of the new Malecon 2000, or the Barrio Las Peñas, where the city originated. It remains the charming architectural style with its beautiful colonial houses built in wood with iron windows. A neighbourhood which is home to artists, painters, sculptors, writers and musicians. The warmth of the people and their friendly smile will make you feel in the right place.

A place where you can experience History. Here it was the place where “El Libertador” Simón Bolívar and José Martí met in order to get plans to finish the independence of South America, leaving behind revolutionary ideas that were the basis for the compatriots to fight for their freedom. For their memorial, monuments were built in their honour and located in different areas of the city such as the Seminario park and the Malecón.

Guayaquil, a place serving both nature and architecture. In the Parque Seminario you will find a subspecies of greenish land iguanas, different from those found in the Galapagos Islands. The Graveyard of the city has, as its main attraction, beautiful mausoleums adorned with exquisite sculptures in Carrara marble. And an incredible experience is to climb the Cerro Santa Ana for their stairs: there you can visit the chapel and the old Lighthouse and also have a beautiful view of the city.

Ultimately, Guayaquil is a city with a lot to see and much to discover. Whether you love the fast urban life, or if you prefer to admire monuments and learn about other cultures, you can not miss it!
