Ecoturism and Adventure

There is another type of alternative tourism besides the traditional one that focuses on sustainability, preservation and appreciation of the environment, with the aim of raising awareness to the travellers who put it into practice. Typically, this type of tourist is focused to a fervent nature lover, a person who practices adventure sports, and has as main objective to flee of the agglomeration and the crowd of big cities. With this type of tourism, its practitioners carry out outdoor activities directly related to nature, or extreme sports, which are a real source of adrenaline for the ones that are stressed by daily urban life.

Ecuador is a country that offers different alternatives for Ecotourism due to its richness in natural landscapes, rivers and different cultures. You can practice sports or simply take a delicious ride by bicycle or by horseback. Here we have some proposals, among others, specially designed for lovers of this type of activity (most of them are visits to forests and ecological reserves with the aim of taking long walks through them and observe by first-hand the flora and fauna):

Visit to Nono. In this natural environment we find a great diversity of wildlife, watching at a glance 30 species of frogs from a type of species called “glass” and mammals such as small deer or wild rabbits, all of them offering to the visitor the opportunity to have a direct contact with nature.

Visit to the Pasochoa forest. Medium and high difficulty walks.

Visit Papallacta. Practice swimming in volcanic water pools.

Visit to the El Cajas National Park. Routes through this beautiful National Park and camping in the middle of nature.

Horseback riding and other activities in the Cotopaxi National Park. Tour of the Andes on horseback or by bike. You can also make a tour through the Canyon of the jump Canopy Tour (it’s a wiring system through which the visitor slips with belts and pulleys that hold it).

Fishing Tour in Cuenca, horseback and bike rides Combination of mountain walks plus sport fishing. Horse and bike riding are also possible through the area.
